West Virginia Board of Medicine Extends Deadline for License Renewals to September 30, 2020

Alert By Shereen Compton McDaniel

On March 30, 2020, the West Virginia Board of Medicine announced that it is extending the deadline for licensure renewals to September 30, 2020, due to the COVID-19 crisis. This extension applies to any license, permit, registration or authorization, which is scheduled to expire between now and June 30, 2020. This extension also applies to the deadline for the renewal of credentials, such as continuing education credits.

The Board plans to begin the renewal process on May 6, 2020, but licensees will have until September 30, 2020, at 4:30 pm EDT to complete the renewal process.

This extension automatically applies to any medical doctor, physician assistant, podiatrist or PLLC licensed by the Board of Medicine. If a Medical Corporation would like the benefit of the extension, it must explicitly request an extension from the Board.

The West Virginia Board of Osteopathic Medicine has not extended its deadline for renewals but announced that it is in the process of reviewing its authority to change renewal requirements in emergencies.
