Best known for his proactive, engaged leadership, James Runyon, Human Resources Director, is responsible for directing the development, implementation and administration of all HR programs, policies and procedures. As Director, James works to create HR strategies to attract top talent and further the firm’s business and strategic goals. In addition to overseeing the day-to-day management of firm personnel, James expands systems and processes designed to enhance employee training and development.
“I work hard to stay abreast of the ever-changing federal and state laws regulating employment management, and use this knowledge to expend the firm’s best practices to meet governmental guidelines.”
Prior to joining Flaherty, James served in the West Virginia National Guard for more than 30 years. He had numerous Command Assignments, the last of which was Commander, 77th Brigade Troop Command, as well as Human Resource Assignments including the organization’s Human Resource Officer responsible for managing both the Army and Air National Guard’s diverse full-time force. His last assignment, prior to retirement, was as Chief of the Joint Staff.
“A military leader must practice human resources every day – managing, training, developing individuals, fostering team environments and focusing human assets to maximize results. This experience has served me well at Flaherty.”
Outside of work, James is a self-described family man. On weekends, he can be found at swim meets, reading or simply spending time with family and friends. He also volunteers with the Huntington-Charleston-Y Aquatic Team (HYCAT) and works with ABLE Families – a non-profit faith-based agency in Mingo County, his hometown.
